FOSTER CARE & ADOPTION
Rebuilt Kentucky's foster care and adoption system.
David Meade's 2018 law overhauled how Kentucky cares for kids who need families.
- It was the House's #1 priority that year.
Gave every foster child in Kentucky a legal bill of rights.
- Passed nearly unanimously in 2019, and took effect the very day it was signed.
Gave foster parents a voice in court.
- Raise a child for six months, and you now have the right to be heard, as well as to stand up for that child in the courtroom. Not one lawmaker voted against it.
Made adoption leave equal.
- Adopt a child in Kentucky, and your job now treats you like any other new parent.
Stopped the state from taking foster kids' money — over the Governor's veto.
- Kentucky was keeping foster children's own Social Security survivor benefits. David Meade's bill ended it. The Governor vetoed it; lawmakers from both parties overrode him, 91 to 3.
Recognized across America.
- David Meade was named one of the nation's 'Angels in Adoption' in Washington, D.C., plus he received the Kentucky's Champion for Children award twice over.

Fought to bring high-speed internet to rural Kentucky.
- When the legislature funded broadband expansion, David Meade doubled rural broadband funding from $100 million to $250 million. He then wrote the plan to replace the old utility poles that were holding construction back.
Put Kentucky farms in the jet fuel business.
- His new law rewards companies that turn Kentucky soybeans and crops into aviation fuel, which was backed by the Farm Bureau and the Agriculture Commissioner.
Protected homeowners from real estate scammers.
- This law makes property flippers play by the same rules as licensed agents, so there will be no more preying on Kentucky families.
Kept decisions about local kids local.
- The state can't prosecute a juvenile case in your community without the local prosecutor's sign-off. Passed unanimously.
